The Milky Way

Most of us live in big cities with a lot of light pollution making stargazing impossible. If you've never seen our galaxy at night, Terje Sorgjerd's time-lapse piece, shot with a 5D will surprise you.

Speaking of stars, I remember a night many years ago in a small coastal town, when I unwittingly stepped into a meteor shower. It was a warm summer night, I had gone out onto the balcony for some air. I thought I was dreaming when I saw the first shooting star streak across the navy sky.

In the same town, a large octopus had taken up residence under a rock in the deeper, cool waters of the crystal clear sea. Those of us who knew kept quiet because we didn't want the local restaurant owner to get any ideas for his appetizer menu. Whenever I went out for a swim, I'd take a look to see if he moved. Octopus are shy creatures and for the most part not dangerous. During the day, he stayed tucked under the rock with one orange tentacle that wouldn't fit left outside. At night, the townspeople and the octopus, we all slept under the starry, summer sky.

Thanks for sharing this masterpiece! Those night sky pictures are awesome and brought back some memories from the last vacation in Indonesia where the Milky Way seemed to be so close.
And that's a really nice story about the octopus, lovely creatures!

Hi Sascha, Never been there but would love to see it. I think the southern hemisphere is looking towards the center of the Milky Way which may be denser and brighter?
