Testing in IE7/IE8 using IE Compatibility Mode

IE Compatibility Mode
Microsoft has never supported installing multiple versions of IE on a single PC. (They do provide some virtual machine images for running older version of IE, but that's not the same as having multiple IE versions on the same Windows OS instance.) To run virtual machines, you have to own Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, it will not work with Windows 7 Home Premium.

But there is still something that everyone can do: You can tell IE to go into "compatibility mode" where it behaves like an older version of IE. For example, if you are running IE8 or IE9, hit the F12 key to bring up Developer Tools. Now go to the "Browser Mode" pull down menu, and select IE 7. Your page will be re-rendered in IE7 mode.
