jQuery and jQuery UI

jQuery is a Javascript library that allows you to easily manipulate - compared to writing your own raw Javascript - your HTML document, handle events such as mouse clicks and perform AJAX calls to a server. It hides many cross-browser inconsistencies from you. It's also easy to extend by writing plug-ins.

jQuery UI provides reusable user interface components including things like datepicker, tabbed interface, accordion and dialog boxes. It also makes it easy to create drag and drop functionality. You can customize the appearance of the components - called widgets - using a number of predefined themes or you can roll your own.

When you download these libraries, you have the option of using a minified, smaller version or the more readable version that includes all the whitespace formatting and commentary.
