How to type the Copyright Symbol © into your Documents

A copyright notice or copyright symbol which is the letter C in a circle, is an identifier placed on copies of the work to inform the world of copyright ownership. Posting a copyright symbol or notice will identify the owner of the work and the year it was first published. You will be able to avoid any claims of "innocent infringement" if you post a copyright notice with your work. So how do you add this nifty little symbol to your documents?

IN AN HTML DOCUMENT: To add the copyright symbol into your HTML document, type the word "copy" with an ampersand to its left and a semicolon to its right:

<p> &copy; 2009 CSS Bakery </p>

It is easier to remember the word copy but if you use the number code instead of the symbol code, you will make sure that you will always get the symbol on all platforms. The number sequence is 169 preceded by an ampersand and digit sign and followed by a semicolon, &#169;

<p> &#169; 2009 CSS Bakery </p>

IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP: If you are in Adobe Photoshop and using the "T" Type tool, after selecting it, press the ALT key and type the number "0169" simultaneously using your numeric keypad.

IN A WORD PROCESSOR: The same technique will work in a word processor like Wordpad, simply press the keys ALT+0169 and you will get the copyright symbol once you release the keys.

For é: ALT 0233
